When It Doesn't Quite Work Out...Then What?

ŠLee Wise, 2002
LIVING WITH THE TENSION
Tension? Did you say tension? As a Christian in the network marketing world I experience tension?
Yes.
Things like ...
*Caring for your downline and someone doesn't "make it" -- that's been a rough one for me. You identify with their goals, their dreams and the reasons they have for succeeding: and it doesn't happen.
*Trying to find just the right "something" that will help people develop and grow their businesses at a faster rate -- and not finding that "something." That, for me, is a tension I have to work through.
*Being physically tired and not able to invest the time and energy I might want to invest in my own business. That can be frustrating.
A SIMPLE POINT
My point in sharing these brief comments is that the "tension points" I face as a Christian leader have their place in *His* leadership development plan for my life!
HOW SO?
I view myself as Christian leader in the making. And as such, I am finding that the tensions I face in the normal process of building my business constantly bring me back to the basics of living a genuine Christian life.
AND THE BASICS ARE ...
Giving myself "heart checks." A check like, "Lee, do you really care about this person as an individual or simply as a way to build your downline and make money?"
Genuine care is a "basic." It is not an option for me as a Christian. I need to take regular "caring heart checks" to see how I am doing -- especially in times of frustration.
Praying is another "basic." I pray for wisdom how to help. I pray and I look for answers.
"Releasing." The more years I am on this earth the more I realize the necessity of simply releasing to God those things I do not understand. I don't know how many times I have told students in my classes and people I share with: "Don't let the 'Whys?' of life kill you!"
Releasing is the other side of trust. I simply don't know why God didn't allow this person to succeed! I work. I pray. And if necessary I release. I allow God to be God in my life *and* in the person's life who didn't see things happen the way *both* of us wanted them to happen!
One final thought. When things don't quite work out I am often reminded (shall I say prompted?) not to make money my God. I say a constant prayer as I seek to build my business. It is simple, but needed. It goes like this: "God, guard my heart."
IN REVIEW
I have found that the "not-so-perfect" times reinforce my need to ...
Genuinely care for people. Pray.
Trust and release. Live for God and not money.
STILL LEARNING
I imagine I will be "learning" these aspects of living the Christian life time and time again as I build my business.
Why?
Because my business is a part of my life and that's what my Savior works with: my life!!
